Bosch 500 Series, 36" Pull-out Hood S/S

I had very specific parameters to fit the space for a vent hood in our remodel and this one is perfect. We needed it to vent out the back instead of up and we also wanted to minimize the space the vent took up in our smallish kitchen when the vent wasn't in use. This is a great solution!

Plenty powerful hood with good lights. For a 5 star review, it should have had rounded corners. May not be the best looking for design, but being tall the sharp corners are to be avoided

I picked this hood based on its design and the Bosch name. But now that I own it, I would not buy one again. Here is the good, the not good, and the bad. In its favor, the hood has four large grease traps with twice the surface area of the KitchenAid hood it replaced. The result is great air flow. The hood is a little quieter and moves far more air. Not so good is the ergonomics of the pull out. It is a thin strip of metal and sits flush with the bottom of the hood. There is no easy way to grab it. You have to stick your fingers in a narrow gap and pry it open. I also don’t like the controls on the underside of the hood. You can’t see them and they are inconvenient to get to. Now the bad. The blower motor came out of balance. The motor and the entire hood vibrate when the hood is on. You can see it and feel it. I immediately placed a service call with Bosch and a repairman came the next week. He said the vibration is normal and refused to replace the motor. However, I’m am engineer and I know this is not normal. The bearings in the motor are not designed to take this kind of abuse. I expect the blower will fail at some point after the warrantee expires, leaving me with a repair bill.

I like the low profile of this hood. It works great, has plenty of light and the vent has plenty of power to suck out all of the unwanted kitchen smells.

My new Bosch Pull-out Hood fits perfectly in the space of the previous hood (different brand) and performs as expected. I particularly like the carbon air filter and upgraded surface lighting.
